The year 2012 has seen over 170000 site visits; welcome support for a service that aims to keep abreast of news from Europe, with emphasis on Australian connections and perspectives.
Last year was the first time that EUAustralia Online, launched in 2006, cleared 200000 visits, half being unique users, with strong interest in a run of particular stories including the saga of the News of the World.
This time we had a slow run in the first half of 2012, followed by a pick-up during field tours by our student reporters, in July and August. They were looking at impacts of the EU financial crisis in SE Asia and Athens, with also time for extensive briefings at the headquarters of the European Union in Brussels.
Among countries where this service is received; as with most such outlets the United States is the lead “userâ€; Australians will usually occupy one of the first four berths; of the “top 25†user markets, EU countries will take 10 or 11 places in any given month; there is strong interest also in Russia, and in China which can get to second place. Overall it is a picture of news and information going to its targeted audiences.
Please see “About Us†for the story of EUAustralia Online and its policy on gathering and commenting on the news of Europe.
