This week saw the announcement of a new venture by the online Huffington Post, setting up in France, in an agreement with the Le Monde group – the host organisation itself enduring fresh problems.
The new product is to be called Le Huffington Post.
The move is part of an expansion beyond the United States, already to Canada and the United Kingdom, by the highly successful blogging outlet, which was purchased at the start of this year by AOL, for US$315-million (A$316.90, xe.com, 11.10.11).
As for Le Monde itself; a message delivered to subscribers dated 11.10.11 states that the print edition has been closed down for three days by industrial action at the printery, adding this would be the first time the highly-regarded daily has failed to publish. [email protected], (11.10.11).
Le Monde like many other newspapers has been under financial pressure in recent years, (reports this week put Paris Soir on the block; its print version set to fold).
The extensive online services of Le Monde are continuing.
