Cadel Evans, wrapped in the flag, and the winner’s yellow jersey, claimed victory on the Champs Elysees, 24.7.11, in the 2011 Tour de France.
It sounded like a popular win; to many cheers he said, in French and English, “thank you to all; it has been an incredible experience”.
 The 34 year-old originally from the Northern Territory, a specialist mountain rider, had a long and patient campaign, following on from second-placings in the event, in 2007-08.

He did it !!!
It has been a long campaign for Australian Cadel Evans, 34, but he has taken position to win the Tour de France in the mostly-ceremonial last leg, this Sunday, into the Champs Elysees.
Placed third overall at the start of the penultimate stage this weekend (23.7.11), the Grenoble individual 42.5-kilometre time trial, he trailed his chief rival Andy Schleck of Luxembourg by 57 seconds, and Schleck’s brother Frank by four seconds. … Read More »
