SPORTS: Kookaburras Going Well; Boomers Get A Second …

In hockey, Australia – the Kookaburras — have had their third straight win in the international Men’s Champions Trophy being played in Germany, defeating England 3-2 (3.8.10); in men’s basketball, Slovenia won the final of a major event staged in China, the Stankovic Continental Cup, defeating Australia — Boomers– 71-60 (1.8.10).
The Kookaburras, undefeated in the World Cup earlier this year, ran into their toughest competition so far this week, with England, having defeated New Zealand 9-1 and The Netherlands 6-3.
They take on Germany this Thursday, and Spain on Saturday, before play-offs beginning on the week end (8.8.10), at Monchengladbach (North Rhine-Westphalia).
The Boomers were undefeated in the hockey competition, up to the final, in Liuzhou, last Sunday night.
The contest was a curtain-raiser for World Championships in Turkey later this month (28.8.10).
