socceroos-japan.jpgThe Socceroos are reportedly lining up some testing battles for themselves in the lead-up to the Football World Cup in South Africa next year.

The Australian side qualified early for the contest and on Wednesday night (17.6.09) in Melbourne clinched their position at the top of their group, in a 2-1 win over Japan.

Before that they had not conceded any goals in Group 1 of the Asia zone competition, setting off yet more optimism among fans.

Officials are now said to be courting major contenders like Argentina, Brazil or England, for a pre-cup game; and have booked the Republic or Ireland to play at Limerick in August – before taking the team on to the Asian Cup.
