FOUR NEW UNIVERSITY CENTRES

The EC has invited universities to put forward proposals for three European Union centres in Australia and one in News Zealand.

It is offering to fund the scheme with €4-million (A$7.2-million; dcerates.com,19.4.09), to encourage awareness and knowledge of Europe, through work on EU-focused curriculum development and research, outreach activities and more academic links.

The universities are asked to meet a short deadline, 26.6.09.
RESEARCH CO-OPERATION WITH GERMANY

The Group of Eight Australian universities (Go8) have in the meantime put up A$3-million to renew a program for research links with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

The G8 is made up of the Australian National University, Monash, and the Universities of Adelaide, Melbourne, New South Wales, Queensland, Sydney and Western Australia.

ARTISTS AWARDS FOR THE UK

Five British Council creative awards have been advertised for Australian “up and coming” artists, musicians, designers, producers, directors, writers, curators, editors and others.

Called “Realise Your Dream”, each is for A$8000 and a return flight, and the program is planned to give innovative workers good contact with leaders in their own field, in the United Kingdom.
