eu-flag-reduced-larger.pngElection observers from the European Union have joined in criticism of the conduct of elections in Kenya on Sunday (30.12.07).

Violence erupted in Kenya over claims of vote rigging, with some 200 people so far believed dead, after President Mwai Kibaki was declared re-elected.

EU observers said conduct of the voting was below international standards and an independent audit was needed, with results from all polling stations to be made public.

Some of the European group had been turned away from places where votes were being tallied, during a prolonged count.
