Fire has caused extensive damage to the famed Roman cinema lot, Cine Citta.
A huge fire (10.8.07) destroyed storage containing props from recent international television series, but sets in the main areas once used by the likes of the director, Federico Fellini were not touched.
There were fears for a while that the blaze would spread to inner-city housing nearby.
Cine Citta was set up 70 years ago during the Mussolini dictatorship and had a heyday in the 1950s, extending into the following decade.
More than 3000 productions have been shot on the 40 hectare lot, like Ben Hur and Cleopatra, Dino de Laurentiis’ Decameron, and later the Passion of Christ.
