High level talks are set for this Monday (30.4.07) between the European Union and the United States at Washington.
A statement at Brussels (27.4.07) said the annual EU-US meeting would mark the adoption of a new framework for promoting trans-atlantic economic integration. It would also deal with other issues such as trade, Kosovo, working together to support the Middle East peace process, climate change, and boosting energy security through the search for sustainable new resources and credible energy efficiency measures. The EU side will be asking the US to extend its Visa Waiver Programme to citizens of all Member States so that EU citizens, “like Americans, can cross the Atlantic freely.”
The Euroepan delegation will include Commissioners led by the President of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso, and the German Chancellor Angela Merkel, as the current President of the European Council, and the Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson. They will meet President George Bush and senior officials.
