‘New Media’ with George Negus

Rapid e change in the media world was signalled by the announcement in August by the Australian government of a future media “framework”. It was, at last, a determination on what kinds of services would be provided through digitisation and foreshadowed many more channels for consumers to cope with, and even enjoy. This change is just a part of a worldwide revolution in media services, which is seeing more small operators coming on the scene, (some with names like EU Australia Online – !), along with expansion of major media outlets, and a legion of non-journalists in the field of blogs and pods. Lee Duffield obtained a response to all of this from one of the lions of Australian current affairs television, George Negus. Appropriately enough, their interview appeared in an online journal, MC/Forum; reproduced here with kind permission, from www.dialogue.media-culture.org.au.
