Croatians voted on Sunday to becomes the 28th member country of the European Union.
The voter turn-out was low at 44% but the decision emphatic, with 66% saying yes to ac cession, which is to take place in July next year, once the existing member governments have ratified it.

The Australian government announced this year (27.9.11) that women in the armed forces will be allowed to serve in any frontline combat roles by 2016.
While women are prominent in many roles already, as senior officers, crew members on warships, air force pilots, and soldiers in Afghanistan, the move excited debate over security and safety issues for all troops, with two sexes in the ranks. … Read More »

Another fugitive linked to wholesale political murders, the Serb military figure Ratko Mladic, has been caught (at a village in Northern Serbia, 26.5.11) , three weeks after the death of the terrorist Osama Bin Laden.
Mladic had been wanted by the International Criminal Tribunal for former Yugoslavia, at The Hague, for 16 years. … Read More »

Over 50000 protesters were out on Saturday in Belgrade, backing demands from the nationalist opposition for an early resignation by the Serbian government.
