EU In Pacific Gathering

The European Union has announced it will take part in the Pacific Islands Forum to be held at Cairns next month (4-7.8.09).
It said it would send a large delegation to a post forum dialogue, headed by the European Commission’s Director General for Development, Stefano Manservisi, with other senior officials including the Head of Delegation to Australia and New Zealand, Ambassador David Daly, and a representative of the European Investment Bank.
The South Pacific Forum is the main gathering point for regional leaders and often used for working out joint policies ranging from political conflicts like the military take-over in Fiji, to development and trade assistance – with the EU often opting to “move in step†with forum decisions, (see EUAustralia 27.1.09, “What to do about Fiji coup leader”).
Europe is a very large aid donor in Pacific countries.

Fiji Truth Says:
August 4th, 2009 at 1:57 pmWe support this initiative by the super powers and earnestly seek your collective interventions into the Fiji saga. The Fiji people have suffered enough under the miliray dictatorships of the last two decades on & off.
We plead with you to impress upon the forum the importance of Fiji being restored to democracy governance as soon as possible.
Vorewe Bainimarama is using so many tactics to justify his actions to the world. He has put together a group of people whom he now calls the Council of Chiefs. These are made up of ex military men who are currently serving under him now & have some connections in their bloodline to the chifely system.
We seek strong support from this high powered forum to establish a Fiji Truth Commission in due course to assist the people of Fiji heal from the onlsught of these military men with their guns.
