Wine Agreement: Regions Listed

wine-off-site3.jpgDetails on the EU – Australia wine agreement initialled this week (See EUAuaustralia Online 6.6.07) show there will be fairly extensive protection for several esteemed products originating in Australia, on sale in Europe.

This is to come under Geographical Indications, and although various brand-name creeks and ridges may not have made it in, several actual places are included in three categories.

States and Zones include the South Eastern Australia device, Barossa, Hunter Valley and Limestone Coast.

There are then Regions, to include Adelaide Hills, Clare Valley, Coonawarra, Langhorne Creek, Mclaren Vale, Margaret River, Mudgee, Padthaway, Rutherglen, Tumbarumba, Granite Belt and South Burnett.

Some Sub-regions include Great Western.

The agreement has to be ratified by both Australian and European Union authorities; officials in Brussels think it could be concluded by the end of this year.
